It is hard to believe that its been nearly two years since my last journal entry on Deviant Art. Some much has happened--so much time has gone by and frankly I don't know where to start! Where did I leave off? It's 2017 goddammit! Did I just end up in a creative limbo funk for the last two years? In retrospect, I honestly did. But now...now...I think I'm ready to go back into the Danger Zone, Push it to the limit and rock the Kasbah like I used to. I see most of you have been doing that. You've stayed busy, you've stayed productive and prolific. That discipline, that commitment is something I've always envied. It might be time for me to take control of that aspect of my life. My creative side, my art and writing is suffering from me not being able to get up and say, "Fuck this frustration, I'm an artist by soul and I need to create or otherwise I will fill like the pope's turds on Good friday.

Let me just gush for a minute (if you are willing to read, or listen of whatever at the many facets of life scratching at my nerves)

breathe....ok!

HOLY CRAP TWIN PEAKS IS BACK! IT'S BACK ITS BACK IT'S FINALLY HERE AND I COULDN'T BE MORE EXCITED. I KNOW I DID THAT FEATURE JOURNAL LIKE TWO YEARS BACK WHEN THEY FIRST ANNOUNCED IT BUT NOW IT'S HERE AND LIKE IT IS PURE DAVID LYNCH: SURREAL AND UNAPOLOGETIC. THANK YOU SHOWTIME.

So, anyway, another reason why I brought you all here from around the globe is because I have an announcement to make:

This summer, expect to see the release of the ULTIMATE EDITION of THE LAST ARCHANGEL, my debut novel and first in the ongoing HELLEARTH SAGA.
The new book will feature a new cover, additional and extended chapters and an exclusive sneak peak of the second novel in the series: THE INFERNAL DESCENT.

More of that later.

Peace.

I'm hoping to make a more thorough return but life keeps me preoccupied with a new job, another semester of school, the search for more money and a roller coaster of a love life. I'm hoping for some positive things to happen soon. Food and liquor donations are more than welcome.

This has been one wicked ass hiatus on DeviantArt. I have no one to blame except for myself...and quite possibly the handfuls of crap life seems to toss in my general direction. I'm not looking for a sympathy vote here, so I'll give you the Too long; Didn't read version:

  • Visited baby sister after not seeing her for over a year, then I find out that she's getting married. She's 20, but supposedly she going on the "five year plan" with her boyfriend to not marry just yet, so like what the hell is even the point then getting engaged?

  • In the same night, I learn that my mother will be accepting a PhD research position abroad. She'll be either going to Ireland or New Zealand. She'll probably be leaving in a few months and I don't know when I'll see her again.

  • I broke up with my girlfriend.

  • I just moved into my new apartment.

I believe that covers it all, but now you can understand, my faithful friends and watchers why I haven't really been able to draw or write, but believe me when I say this...I see a new dawn approaching and I have a lot of internalized frustration and rehabilitation to get out. Hopefully I can channel it before I slump into a vat of self-loathing.

But as bad as all that information might sound, I've been relatively well off and enjoying what life has in store for me now. On top of that, THAT FREAKING AWESOME BATMAN V SUPERMAN TRAILER WAS POSTED AND IT LOOKS ORGASMIC IN AWESOMNESS THAT I COMPLETELY/MOMENTARILY FORGOT ABOUT MOST OF THE MARVEL MOVIES COMING OUT NEXT YEAR.

AND....AND....we can't forget, ASH VS EVIL DEAD is coming and it is everything that we've ever wanted in a continuation of the true Bruce Campbell driven Evil Dead universe. So. Totally. Stoked.

On Friday March 27th I traveled to Halstead Elementary School to speak with three 4th grade classes about the joys and purpose of Creative Writing and making Art for a living. This was the third year in a row I had the privilege of speaking with the school's esteemed students about the writing process and what ti takes to embrace the role of the creative individual. I talked a little about my book, but I couldn't go into any extreme details as it would simply go over their heads and it wasn't marketed to their age group. We went over the writing process, especially taking time to examine the editing and revising portion. I even wrote a small short story for them to edit in class.

After that, we took to discussing about the professional art world. They are always more impressed with my drawings than anything. The kids are so vividly astonished, one even asked if I was the one that had created Spider-Man after showing a simple illustration of the web-slinger. My God.

As a gift, I drew a black and white line art drawing of a Dragon.  We made photocopies of it for every student so they could take it home and color it anyway they could imagine. It presented every thing I sought to accomplish when instructed them to be creative, that it should all be for themselves and they should concentrate on doing what makes them happy with out any judgmental consequences.

One of the teachers actually stopped at one point because I had said something they thought was exceptional. I was quoted with:

"A 100 failures is still a 100 successes to the ones that never even tried in the first place."

I just said it on a whim, but I guess it is a good set of words to think about.

So other than that it's been a rewarding couple of days.  I also got the part-time job I wanted, so things are looking up.

I have a terrible perception of time. My God, it just felt like the new year and I've barely done anything.  Well, in actuality I've been doing a lot hence why I haven't had time to update my portfolio. I did post up a sketch and a new poem. Did you see it? No? That's ok. I'm still in school and I've been having a blast in my clay figure modeling class. It would have been nice if someone had told me how expensive it was going to be, buying all the tools and the 50 lbs. of clay on top of that.

Oscar thoughts:

If you know me well enough, then you I really love movies and cinema culture. I was thrilled to find out that Birdman: or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) won for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay and Cinematography.  I was a little disappointed that Michael Keaton didn't win for Best Actor, as I was very impressed with this comeback won which was similar to Micky Rourke's performance in The Wrestler, Eddie Redmayne was a equally befitting choice thanks to his performance in The Theory of Everything. I was happy just as long as American Sniper didn't win.

I was ecstatic that J.K. Simmons won Best Supporting Actor for his incredible role in Whiplash. Damn, I loved that movie. Good to see The Grand Budapest Hotel snagged a few Oscars as well.

Enough of that, who wants to see some cool stuff I discovered on the internet?!
